The digital divide remains an often overlooked aspect of modern inequality, with 25% of Americans unable to access the internet. Issues of digital literacy, digital skills, and participation formed a core part of our understanding as we identified a clear gap in primary languages and the different ways different communities access the digital world.
I was the lead product strategist on a team that developed personalized digital literacy programs using SDOH data, AI, on-the-ground interventions, and predictive modeling. We deep dove into the current state of digital access and literacy in NYC using needs assessments. We then collaborated with affordable connectivity programs across the city and secured governmental grants ensuring device provision and connectivity. In the heart of communities in Queens, in religious and community centers, we conducted workshops to empower individuals with essential skills and equipped community leaders with skills to further train others, amplifying our impact. Our innovative approach involved using risk scores to predict digital literacy needs, allowing for preemptive interventions and creating pathways for individuals to continuously enhance their digital skills.
